This is my boy Chase. He's a four year old Aussie-Border Collie mix I adopted nearly three years ago. If you don't know his story, it goes a little something like this:
Chase was found wandering the streets of Crescent City, California, dirty, skinny and pretty beat up. He had been abused so severely that he was terrified of people, and his default reaction was to bite. I discovered him through Hope's Haven, a canine rescue group down in Salem, Oregon and despite all of his problems, I could tell he was a lover beneath it all and brought him home as a playmate for my other Aussie, Basil. He'd made huge strides, while in the foster care of his kind and patient foster dad, John, but he was still pretty rough around the edges when I got him. I had to muzzle him whenever new people came to the house, and forget about letting him off leash at the dog park!
Nearly three years later and he has grown into the sweetest, most affectionate dog, and he's quite the athlete too! He loves to chase frisbees (or anything really) and play ball; anything that allows him to get out and run, run, run makes him a happy boy. This brings me to the point of this post- recently while playing fetch, I threw his ball down a hill and when he came back up, the poor guy was hobbling on three legs. Chase must have landed badly and tore a ligament in his left hind knee. Now he's in need of surgery so that he'll be able to walk and run normally again. That surgery is estimated to cost between $3,500 and $5,000, which is money that I simply don't have. It's breaking my heart to think that this sweet dog, who had such a rough start to life, may never be able to run again.
I've never been much on asking for charity so I'm asking you to buy some art instead. All the proceeds from my art sales will go towards his medical expenses and rehabilitation. If you'd like to just donate instead, you can do that on gofundme.com as well. Every little bit helps, truly!
