Monstera Planters

The Monstera Deliciosa was the gateway plant for so many collectors, and what’s not to love? They can grow to giant proportions, are low maintenance and those fenestrations are so dreamy. So this was my first sculptural leaf pot. It had to be. I sketched the leaves of one of my Monstera, then made a stencil to use when cutting out the shape of the leaf from a slab of clay. The leaves are set aside while I throw the planter wheel, using a white stoneware clay body. The pot is trimmed to give it a little lift and then I attach the Monstera leaf and dry them very slowly so no cracking occurs. Some of these have a built in saucer, other have a separate saucer but all have drainage.

The glazing process is a time consuming one. I wax around the leaf (to cover the places the glaze shouldn’t go) and then either hand paint the glaze (three coats per color), or carefully dunk it in a big bucket of glaze, before they’re fired to temperature upwards of 2200 F. The bottoms are cleaned up with a diamond grit sanding pad, to ensure a smooth surface that won’t scratch the surface they sit upon.

These are available in 4” and 6” sizes. Price varies by glaze, and saucer style. You’ll regularly see these in my updates and pre-orders.
